Things happened! Yes, it was my birthday and we had another great party. It was a joint birthday BBQ with our friends Bruno, Mike and Julien. Our birthdays all fall within one week. Not much to say about the party itself other than it was a diverse and multicultural crowd that can party! Which reminds me that we have a new neighbor upstairs. He was impressed with the "internationality". He is really nice, from Sacramento and sells boats. This was almost two weeks ago.
Last weekend was 4th of July, the national holiday. Big deal, big BBQ. This year we decided to avoid the crowds and went hiking in the hills instead. After quite an odyssey trying to find the right dirt roads and the trailhead we did a very nice hike (not exactly as proposed in the guidebook) through forest and ended up on a summit with an old fire observation platform. Gorgeous views even though it was a little hazy.
The rest of the long weekend we spent working (me) and householding (Selina). It was also the weekend of the invention of the sushi crawl! For the Europeans, a pub crawl is when you go from one pub to the next and always have one drink. You would usually start at one end of the city/neighborhood and work your way to the other end. So we had the brilliant idea to apply this to sushi. We made 3 restaurants in PB and defined that it has to be 3 or more to be a real crawl, you have to get something for free at every restaurant and break the law once. Yep, that's the rules. We started with fresh oysters and a beer, moved on to rolls, gyoza and beer and ended the crawl with sashimi and sake. Did I mention that we were pretty full by the end?
