Day 2 was reserved for Bryce Canyon. We drove a little more than one hour through more alpine landscapes with some cows. The guidebook warned that Bryce Canyon can be one huge parking lot with everybody stuck on the one road through the park. We didn't experience any of that even though it was a long weekend. The rim of Bryce Canyon is at 2400m and higher. After the first day at high altitudes we had adapted much better and enjoyed the different views of this very impressive canyon. It is not as big as the Grand Canyon but the strange stone formations (called hoodoos) make it really beautiful.
By day two we had started a game called spot the Swiss. We would try to guess when we would see the first Swiss tourists and how many at once and how many over the entire day. I do not remember the numbers but they were there from the first viewpoint we got out of the car. And we have never seen as many Swiss since leaving Switzerland. It's not surprising considering the grandeur of the landscape. After a picnic (the usual subway sandwich) and a little nap we went for a hike down into the hoodoos.
Then another nice drive home to drink our first beer in Utah. Despite the fact that Utah has very strict (and complicated) alcohol laws it was easy to find a place that serves beer. Although our server was not allowed to serve it and had to get someone else to bring it to us. It was another long and beautiful day and the two Swiss travelers had no trouble sleeping.
