Labor day weekend - Day 3 and 4

It's been a while since we came back but let's finish the story of the labor day trip. The third day was reserved for Zion National Park. We were a bit unlucky as it was overcast with a light rain for most of the day. That didn't take away from the impression of the big steep walls of the canyon.

But we didn't feel like doing a longer hike, which is presumably the best way to see Zion. Zion is only accessible by a shuttle bus system to avoid traffic jams in the narrow valley/canyon. So we took the shuttle, got out at every stop and did a few short hikes. We were joined by some deer during our picnic, saw plenty of wild turkey and even a tarantula, which was not sick as the biologists thought but just ugly.

We ended the day with a great diner in the nearby town before driving back to our hotel through the dark national park.
The next day was already the last of our tour de Utah. The sun was out and we got to see Zion under a blue sky on the way back to Las Vegas. The drive down from the green canyons into the desert was spectacular and we would have loved to spend a little more time there and do some real hikes. We dropped of our rental car in Vegas, happy that they didn't notice the little chip in the windshield. After a short flight we were back in San Diego with a lot of memories and photos.
