Amigos!
Last weekend we were at the Hard Rock Hotel for a birthday party. First time for us. Farrah, a friend from Scripps had rented a suite at the hotel where we had diner and enjoyed the view over 5th Avenue, the busiest street in downtown San Diego. We were a very mixed crowd mostly Europeans and Japanese. After diner we went to the club/lounge/bar of the hotel to join the hip San Diegans. The usual party uniform is sort of a Paris Hilton look for girls and more skater style for boys. Yes, sometimes we feel a little old... But wait until we get sick-ass tattoos!
Otherwise we are both fighting a little bit with work. We do experiments that are either not fun (but we have to do it because no one else does) or nothing really works. We are both here now since one year or more, working 9-10 hours a day and this is where you start wishing for useful results. But that's how research is... We knew it! At the moment I'm sitting in front of the FACS and it doesn't look too bad.
The good thing is that we have yummie cheese and Salami at home from Michi who was in Switzerland. And we will have Dania and Ursina (friends from Basel) visiting next weekend. And we were invited for diner by our French friends last night and tonight we are going for a Swedish meal at Linda's place. As long as we don't take our job to personal, i.e. stop thinking about it once we leave the lab, we cannot complain.
