Ok, where were we? First night in Ensenada. What I forgot to mention is a manifestation for peace we witnessed. Mexico has a big problem with drug cartels, especially in the north close to the US border. Something like 5 police chiefs have been murdered in Tijuana within one year!
The next day we went searching for the famous Baja waves... Nothing! Just no swell. We found one reef that was breaking but too crowded and Shinji too undecided. So we went to see "La Bufadora" a geysir, which spits water from the incoming waves. To get there you walk down a tourist street with maybe 5 different sorts of shops (cheap souvenirs, stupid T-shirts, food and fake watches) and at least 10 of each kind. So you can imagine what an overload! Almost exclusively Mexican tourists were there and we enjoyed the atmosphere and the beautiful view (see panorama).
The night we spent again in Ensenada, enjoyed lobster and a quiet night. Monday I finally went surfing! Back to the reef from the day before but this time went to the water and had a short but very fun session. It was the kind of break where you basically have to jump of the foot of the cliff and paddle as quick as you can to avoid getting smashed back onto the rocks. After that we drove back towards the border. On the way we passed through the wine region of the Baja, which is beautiful and crossed the border in Tecate. For those who have seen the movie "No country for old men", it was very much that atmosphere.
