The hike or the missing trailhead - day 5

Slept in Gardiner, north of the park in Montana. Slightly quirky village where you have the feeling that there is a local life next to the hotels and tourists. From there we drove to the Tower Roosevelt area of the park where we wanted to do a hike to a petrified forest. Our lonely planet guidebook said that there is no marked trailhead but a clearly visible trail. Hmmm, is this a trail, or this? No wait, here it is! Yes! We followed the "trail" for maybe 10 minutes until we realized that it was just animal tracks. So we decided to hike off the beaten track and reach that mountain ridge anyway. Turns out that this is not that easy through forest without a trail and slightly adventurous with all that wildlife. Glad Selina saw that bison sleeping in the forest before we walked through... Plenty of elk (Hirsch in german, Elch is moose, very confusing) as you can see in the photo album. We made it to the ridge and almost back before the rain started. Saw the petrified tree and drove back to the east entrance of the park where we spent the last night.
