Early morning start in West Yellowstone. Coffee and muffins, sandwich stop at Subway to buy picnic and then hit the road to the south east corner of the park. Bechler Corner. On the way there we see our first moose. Impressive animals... Largest mammal on this continent. The dirt road to the remote ranger station leads us straight into a herd of cows including real cowboys! Yes, they do wear cowboy hats and plaid shirts. Not sure about the boots. Once in the park we get informed about hikes and bears. We decide to do a 5 hours walk following a river. Very pretty but no wildlife except squirrels and chipmunks. Relaxing to walk through light forest without seeing anyone for hours. After walking along a river for that long we really wanted to eat fish for diner. Found some good trout and ended the day with a beer in a local bar with live country music. Very authentic.
