Dear blog-readers,
Sunday was Super Bowl day. This is the final of the Football Season, THE happening of the year which we (the Chargers, see older posts) missed only by inches. As Super Bowl is watched by all Americans (really!) it is the most expensive show to place ads and 30sec of airtime costs 2'700'000$, no kidding! Therefore the ads are all brand new and good. Check out our favorite ad above. The game was exciting (at least the first quarter and and the last 10 minutes of the last quarter which was all I got to see because of my beloved parasites). This time we watched the game at home in bed instead of a bar and drunk tea instead of beer as Shinji was sick.
Today we will learn something about the American election system. As I am the only one with real Americans in my lab it is my task and pleasure to enlighten you.
Tomorrow we will have "Super Tuesday" when most of the states have their primary elections. As a voter you need to be registered as a republican (we don't want those) or a democrat (the good fellas). Each state gets a certain number of delegates according to the numbers of inhabitants (like in the Nationalrat) and each party gets their share according to the registered voters. OK? So far so good. In the primary elections the voter can vote for any candidate in his party. The delegates of each state are pledged to vote for the candidate that got most votes. Then it gets a bit dodgy as I don't know when the delegates will get together and decide on one candidate per party or why they are needed at all... Anyway, this fall there will be only two candidates and then again the people get to vote for one of them. Then anyone can vote anybody; democrats democrat, republicans republican, democrats republican and vice versa.
All we can hope for is that they will do better than the previous two times.... So keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow!
