Finally!

Finally, I find time to sit down, enjoy the warm evening on the porch and write a real post. What a relieve! So much was going on the past few days and weeks: Selina's dad was here for some days. We did the tourist thing (all those who plan to come pay attention now!) including the Wild Animal park (where we saw a cheetah run), view of San Diego from Point Loma where the Spanish arrived centuries ago, sundown cocktail in the sky bar at Hotel Hyatt, beachlife and of course the zoo. And he did part of that with public transport (and liked it)! Then he went to Mexico City for 2 weeks. In the meantime I bought sick sunglasses and was busy preparing my lab meeting, which is a relatively big thing here. Then there was Simon, a friend of Selina from her studies in Basel. He lives in New York and was in San Diego for a scientific meeting. We dropped him off at the airport last Sunday and at the same time picked up Selina's dad again. He stayed with us for another two days before leaving for Switzerland. This time Selina drove him around to see the Nikki de Saint Phalle garden in Encinitas, the apple pie in Julian and to eat Wiener Schnitzel at lake Cuyamaca. The rest of the week I was busy writing a fellowship proposal for the Roche Research Foundation. Ended the week with a migraine last night, which was short but intense and started the weekend with a beautiful summer day (28°C!) at the beach. With all our French friends it felt like holidays in the south of France. Now we enjoy an ice coffee and the beautiful evening light on our porch. I have my computer on the lap and Selina is playing Patience. Even though life is not always a picnic we have absolutely no reason to complain! Especially when I see the weather in Switzerland...
