Photos and complaints

While the kids are out in the wild I found time to upload some photos from their arrival in San Diego. Sometimes it feels unfair that our visitors see parts of the US that we haven't seen yet even though they are not too far away. Soon! This year we will free some time to do a tour of the famous national parks between Phoenix and Las Vegas. Until then, work hard, earn... not that much. We just realized the other day again that fellowships are not encouraged at Scripps: My boss has a hard time paying our social benefits (Krankenkasse) that is included when you are paid by Scripps. And Scripps pays sort of a pension but also only if you are paid directly. Postdoc salary in the US? Same range as a cashier at Migros. Anyway, we have a car, we can eat out every now and then and we can afford tickets to fly to Europe. What more do we need. As our friend Michi likes to say: We are complaining on a high level! But you know, complaining seems to be part of the human nature :-)
