Here's what Switzerland totally misses out: Graduation and commencement. The ceremony where you get your diploma at university. It's the Harry Potter event where the grad students (DoktorandInnen) wear the black capes and hats. It usually takes place outside with tents that make the event look even more like a Harry Potter film. We recently went to the UCSD School of Medicine commencement where our friend Neekesh graduated. He did his PhD in Selina's lab and now finished his MD studies. Congratulations double doctor Dharia!
The most exciting thing though that we have done lately was a flight in a biplane from the 1920s! I got this from Selina for my birthday. A great experience! You fly at low altitude from where you can see all the details: streets, houses, surfers and all the other things we know in our new home town. Sitting outside makes the whole thing even more "real".
