Today the fire situation got much worse. When we arrived at Scripps we learnt that the institute is closed due to the fires. So are all the other institutes and universities. La Jolla is not threatened by the fire at the moment but everyone is asked to stay at home if possible. Freeways should be empty for evacuations and the quality of the air is bad. Up to now the fire has destroyed 200'000 acres (~20% of Switzerland) and more than 250'000 people have been evacuated in San Diego county. Now we are at home, safe, working and following the news on TV.
