Yes, I've been working quite a bit lately and I was lazy with the blog too. But on the other hand there was nothing special to write about. The usual work, eat, drink, sleep, surf, friends things.
But now I have something to tell:
Last weekend we drove up to LA to first celebrate the defense (Doktorprüfung) of Melanie, a friend in Huntington Beach, a little south of LA. And then to meet Diana and go for diner with her and Michi and Amy. After a little more than half way we had that famous "check engine" light come on in the car... Ok, no idea what that means, so better stop and check the things we can. Coolant - ok, oil - rather very low. So refilled that and then checked for a Subaru dealer in the neighborhood. Luckily, I have an iPhone with Google maps wherever I go. Selina guided me to the next Subaru entry, which turned out to be a financing institution... Ok, next. This time it was a real official Subaru dealership and our car got hooked up to the laptop. Diagnosis: oxygen sensor. Something with emissions, not urgent but has to be done before the next smog check. Ok... helpless as we are in these matters we just say yes and explore the Japanese supermarket next door. What a great place! Spending $250 on the car, we can spend some more in Japanese goodies. Unfortunately, the car was already fixed after an hour and we had to go and pick it up. We finally arrived at Melanie's beach party in Huntington Beach something like 3 hours late. Was fun to meet her anyway!
We didn't stay long as we had to pick up Diana at Union Station in the middle of LA. Glad we have a GPS navigation system that helped us get there. Traffic in LA is a nightmare! Crazy driving, sooo many lanes, freeway exits and entrances and you are in the middle of that flow of cars not knowing where you have to go... Navi helped.
We then went to Westwood where we enjoyed a nice Italian diner with Amy and Michi. Slept at Diana's place in Monrovia and spent Sunday at the Huntington library in Pasadena. An old library with art exhibitions and a huge garden. This is where we spent most of the time. I've uploaded some pictures. And then drive home (ca. 2 hours) feed Selina's parasites (the ones in the lab...) and sleeeeeeep!
