Winter

Winter in Southern California is not the same. A little bit of rain and slightly colder temperatures and bigger waves. That is the main difference to the rest of the year. It's the season where the difference to Switzerland is most obvious. Endless blue skies are so much better than a dense layer of fog... But we still want to go skiing. So every year we join the Society of Fellows at Scripps and go on their ski trip to Big Bear the closest ski resort. It's a 3 hours drive, which is not bad by bus where you get breakfast in the morning and beer in the evening. It's not a world class ski resort but definitely good enough to enjoy a day in the snow and the views are quite stunning. And there are even some snow bunnies:
